At LHMS, the last month of summer was spent learning more about insects and having fun in the sun. We also welcomed new students to our classroom and said goodbye to those heading off to kindergarten and first grade.
At the very start of the month, we had The Beez Kneez visit school and the children learned all about honey bees. They learned how important bees are for our environment and about the different kinds of bees. After listening so well, they had a chance to look at the bees up close, try on a bee keeper’s outfit, and taste different kinds of honey.
This month we also continued to have fun on the water slide! We have been so lucky to get to enjoy some fun in the sun and the children have loved every chance they have had to race down the water slide. They’ve also enjoyed jumping for the bubbles!
Ms. Olga continued her Spanish lessons with the children on Mondays and Thursdays throughout the summer. They learned a lot and we loved seeing her twice a week!
Satchel came to visit a few times this month and loved sitting with the children outside. She waited patiently for them to finish snack before she cleaned the crumbs off the playground for us!
In the middle of August, we had to say goodbye to Mr. Lewis as it was time for him to head back to college. We were so lucky to have Mr. Lewis here for the summer and he is missed by everyone. The children loved learning to strum the electric guitar with him and taking selfies with him! We sent him off with a big hug and hope he comes to visit when he can!
We also had two special events in August: a field trip to The Blast! and a visit from Mr. Mike and The Reptile Experience. I hope you had a chance to see the blog posts detailing all the fun we had.
There was lots of fun in the classroom too. Highlights include beautiful paintings, food chains, play dough, and silly faces. Also, we celebrated Flora’s birthday!
Mr. Eben made an amazing butterfly house for the classroom, and we watched as the butterflies emerged from their cocoons.
The emergence of cicadas marks the end of summer, and while we will miss the warm weather and fun summer activities, we are are excited for the start of the school year!
Lastly, on behalf of all the teachers, a tremondous thank you to all our families for their generous donations to our retreat fund. The teachers spent a wonderful day together laughing and enjoying each other’s company. It was much needed and greatly appreciated! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
